Parirua #1 (Porirua Harbour)

Parirua is an acrylic on canvas painting that is part of the Harbour series. The term Parirua itself is the original Māori name of Porirua Harbour, meaning “twin flowings of the tide”. The two water systems of the harbour (the Pauatahanui Inlet and the Onepoto Arm) were once eco systems that supported a bountiful supply of fish such as sole and cod, eels and sting rays, seals, penguins, and shell fish such as cockles and pipis. The painter's studio and living quarters features magnificent views at Porirua Harbour and this painting is an expression of the eternal and reassuring rhythm of the flowing in and out of the two tides.
